The Importance Of Overcoming Obstacles Of Life

Improved Essays
Who ever said life isn’t fair was a genius. Or just stating the obvious depending how you look at it. But never the less it’s true. Life has so many ups and downs; lefts and rights; you’d think it’s just one big, long, obstacle course. Of course some people have more obstacles to face than others, but in the grand scheme of things I think it’s how you face the obstacles that counts. I’ve dealt with some lows in life like depression and divorce, but I’ve also had some pretty great highs like amazing friends and doing things I love. I just hope I can look back one day, when I’m old and wrinkly, and be proud of the way I faced my challenges in life.

So far I haven’t been that great at facing my lows. I’m not very close to my family (excluding

Seuss, “Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you.” In other words why try to be someone else if you’re already you. Life to me is being brave enough to be 100% yourself. Because how can you live life to the fullest if you can’t be who you really are? How can you meet people you really like if you’re not being yourself? How can you perform to your best abilities if you trying to perform to someone else’s? You can’t. So why try? Everyone’s ultimate goal in life is to be happy, but you can’t if you can’t if you lie about being someone you’re not. So what if I’m loud, messy, lazy, bizarre, and stubborn. I’m also vibrant, intelligent, kind, cheerful, daring, and downright awesome! And I’d own up to it any day, because it’s who I am. And I’m not afraid to show it. And the really sad thing is: people live in fear every day for being who they are. I can’t stand callous people full of hate: racists, homophobes, sexists, islamophobics, etc. if people want to run around there whole lives hating other people for just being themselves, in my opinion, it’s …show more content…
In the future I would like to make a difference; give back to the world in some way. I want to be happy with my life and whatever I choose to do with it. I believe we need more love and less hate. I believe our generation can do great things if we try. But that starts with people’s willingness to step forward and help the change. Because I believe there’s a lot we need to change.

If we were all brave enough, and true enough to ourselves I know this world would be a better place. I’m still learning how to deal with my obstacles course and so are many, many others. But I know were not alone and have each other to coach us through it. This is not the end, but the beginning to a wonderful life that will be lived to the fullest, no matter how many

I believe that you should always try and be yourself no matter what anyone says or even cost you your life. Laying down your life for being yourself or something you believe in is the noblest thing that someone can do. Being yourself and not letting others restrick you for who you are is the best thing someone can do for themself. I believe Kurt Vonnegut short story “Harrison Bergeron” shares some of the values I have on being true to yourself even if the world is against you or are restricting you from being you. “ Harrison placed his big hands on the girl’s tiny waist, letting her sense the weightlessness that would soon be hers.…

Michael Jordan once said, “Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.” Being born to two immigrants, who have never completed college, and growing up in a low-income family of six individuals, I have faced nothing but a myriad of obstacles in my life. Although at times I have struggled to overcome these challenges, I have always persevered and pushed past each one with my determination to be the best I can be, which has matured me into the young adult I am today.…

After much consideration, I have decided to dedicate this space in my application to a man named Harvey Milk, the first openly gay non-incumbent to be elected to a public office in U.S. history. Through his dedication to the LGBT community and the gay rights movement, Harvey Milk overcame many challenges and showed true leadership through his persistence, courage, and focus on making a better future for all. With the help of the gay community and his own determination, Milk was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1977, after having lost two elections prior. Through running for office, Milk exemplified not only his determination, but his courage as well because he knew taking a stand for gay rights would make him a target of homophobic violence.…

Growing up is a strange concept. The way our minds and our character grow come from the hardships and struggles that life sets in front of us. People handle situations differently. Some people decide to give up when faced with a difficult decision or situation. That 's not how I chose to handle things when I went through a very difficult year.…

It is often interesting viewing your world and reality through the eyes of other people, listening as they decipher and make assumptions, none all that accurate, about the facts, while you 're left to live those facts. Americans have a lot of opinions about Haiti and about as many questions too. As soon as people know that I’m Haitian, I get flooded with questions that I highly doubt they want the answers to: “Why is Haiti so poor?” “Do you do voodoo?” “Where does all the relief money go?”…

Some people aren’t satisfied with just finding themselves. “If I can be authentic for a moment: Nobody wants to see your true self. We all have thoughts and feelings that we believe are fundamental to our lives, but that are better left unspoken” (Grant 2017). Being yourself doesn't mean it will give you happiness. Finding yourself is part of being human.…

An obstacle I had to recently over come during this semester of college was that I had a personal conflict with myself. I suddenly lost my motivation to do my work when it was assigned and I started missing class when I hadn’t missed a single class up until that point of confliction. I didn’t see a need to do the work when it wasn’t due for another couple days ahead, so I saved it till the very last day and I would stress and regret my decision because I was in a rush to do it. I didn’t even bother to learn from my mistakes I just continued to do it and my grades could have been better if I stayed motivated.…

Being myself is effortless over attempting to mimic others’ behaviors. When I am true to myself, I am not required to stress so much about anyone contradicting or having negative opinions to say when I do not choose the same decisions as them. The pressure to look like everyone around and conform to society decreases as I learn my own self worth. Showing my own character by doing what I trust is correct, dressing the way I am comfortable in and by not letting people's opinion influence my decisions , has permitted me to grow as a person. For example, I participate in activities that I enjoy and take classes that I find accommodating, to allow myself to stay true to myself.…

I’d like to share a short story about myself. I’d like to do this, to show people that life will always throw curveballs but what truly matters is you fight through it! Every life matters, and it might not seem like it but you are destined for something great!…
