The United States of America had been debating for quite a while on whether or not to declare war on Germany. What made them join the war was the Zimmerman telegram. Germany was trying to send a letter to Mexico by the underground telegrams which stated that if America joined the war, Mexico would attack them before they were ready and after World War One ended, Germany would allow Mexico to take back Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. Luckily, Great Britain intercepted the telegram and decoded it. They then sent it out to all of the newspapers, knowing that America would be inflamed. America saw the Zimmerman telegram and was outraged and declared war on Germany on April 6th, 1917. It took America one year to actually get involved in the war because they needed time to train their troops. Once they did though, World War One was a completely different ball
