It was the warm spring day of April 20, 1999, and a majority of the students there chose to eat lunch outside. Danny Rohrbaugh, a freshman, was one of the students enjoying the warm air outside during lunch. It was 11:19. For the next few minutes, the students in the cafeteria heard gunfire. Some of those students looked out to see Danny lying dead on the sidewalk. He was shot three times. The attack on Columbine had begun.
One of the leading causes of school shootings like the incident at Columbine stem from the long term effects of bullying. We, as students, can put an end to bullying once and for all to prevent further school shootings like Columbine.

Students who are depressed as a result of bullying can often times seek revenge. The long term impact of bullying on rational thinking is like the erosion of a rock in a river bed. This erosion of the mind can lead to bewilderment and unethical behavior by the victim of bullying. What we say to our peers or what we do is important. We can be part of the solution or feed the problem. To be part of the solution, you must learn to support those who are in need of a friend.
By partaking in random acts of kindness, or by introducing yourself to a student who is lonely, you can change someone’s perspective for the better. In fact, not only will acts of kindness not only cheer other people up, but it can also stop bullying. Admit it, the last time you helped someone in need, that gave you a positive feeling about yourself.
There are some students who are lonely most likely because they are left out of activities. Let’s make certain that no one is left behind. Let’s attempt to fix the broken hearts of our peers with friendship. And lastly, let’s make sure that we support each other and learn to live without name calling or harsh judgement. No person should ever have to walk their path alone, we should always have a friend for
