Because America is building bigger, building more and consuming more than any in the world. Hence, Yes America is one of the richest countries and the most polluters on earth. Many things contribute to climate change, beef for example produce methane, cows eat as much as they can and when they burp they release methane. According to professor Gidon Eshel, PH.D featured in the documentary Before the Flood each molecule of methane is equivalent to 23 molecules of CO2. Methane is a powerful greenhouse gas, and beef contribute 12% to the earth 's Co2. Even though their are many factors onto what contributes to global warming the point is clear A warming climate will bring changes that can affect our water supplies, agriculture, power and transportation systems, the natural environment, and even our own health and …show more content…
According to Elijah Pryor in an article he wrote in the London Progressive Journal titled Climate Change and Marxism “Marx’s materialist concept of alienation can be related to that of the decline of empathy for the environment by society due to capitalism’s search for profit”(5). With the rise of industrial revolution it can explain how pollution started increasing tremendously. Globalization and capitalism played a big part of the environmental destruction as well. With more and more people inhabiting the earth and the ruling class wanting more power, the pollution and destruction of the environment started rising. Article Summary The article written by Al Engler discusses the possibility that the increase of carbon dioxide in the air is a leading cause in forwarding the effects of global warming. Due to the increase of this (and other) greenhouse gases, consequences of global warming will continue to escalate until we put a stop to adding to the natural greenhouse effects with our own carbon emissions. However, as Engler states, “The problem is capitalism.”…

Emission gases have caused defective ocean acidification, which “serves as a sink for this gas and absorbs about a quarter of human carbon dioxide emissions, which then goes on to react with seawater to form carbonic acid” (“What Are Greenhouse Gases?”). Along with ocean acidification, ozone pollution, unhealthy plant growth, ozone depletion also occur as a result of emission. According to Dr. Smith human actions have not caused an increase because “the sun 's intensity, earth orbital cycle and volcanoes all produce small changes in temperature that affect” the earth. Greenhouse gases have always existed and have little to due with industrial use. The overabundance of methane is a result of the unnecessary industrial industry.…

Methane is a byproduct of livestock. It is a fast acting greenhouse gas, meaning that methane will contribute to climate change more quickly than some other greenhouse gases. The scientific reasoning behind this lies in the half-life of methane. An isotope 's half-life is how long it takes for half of it to decay. Methane has a half life of 8 years (Goodland & Anhang), significantly less than carbon dioxide’s 100 year half life (Goodland & Anhang).…
