Invisible and Struggling Asian Americans are generally known for their diligent work ethics, their high levels of education and the high paying job that follows from their education. This stereotype is even supported with statistical data, Asian Americans holding a higher median household income, $66,000, compared to the general population’s $49,800 (Pew Research Center). With a rise in Asian immigrants and the Asian American populace as a whole and how they are projected to be the largest minority group by 2055 (Cepeda), the U.S. economy seems to have a bright future ahead. However, the well-known fallacy of stereotypes is that they have their exceptions and also that statistics sometimes can be framed to skew the situation. Hunger and…

As pretty much as you may trust that particularly your age, sexual orientation, or race is unimportant, they influence how others see you. Indeed, they even influence how you generally see yourself. In a well known arrangement of examinations, subjects who were prepared with various components of their personality really performed distinctively on tests in a big way. Asian-American ladies who were prepared with their ethnicity improved the situation on math tests than the control gathering, and stunningly much better than the individuals who mostly were prepared with their sexual orientation. Without a doubt these ladies considered the generalization that men are definitely better at math noxious and false; that didn''t mostly prevent it from…

Personal statement The year 2004 marked a time in my family’s history in which we took a substantial step forward by coming to the United States. Before that, we lived through and experienced a lot of unspeakable things. Originating in Somalia, my parents understood that it was a place where nothing could be achieved. Civil war broke out, devastating hundreds upon thousands of lives, including several of my family members. Corruption infected the government, military, and all forms of law enforcement.…

Some challenges I’ve had to overcome start with me needing to get my life fixed. I used to be the student in high school that didn’t care about how they looked or what grades they got. I had no self-confidence in who I was and I had no aspirations on what I wanted to do with my life. Once high school was over life hit me and I needed to stop being the person I was because it was getting me nowhere in life. Now that I changed my attitude and my lifestyle I now get good grades and I finally feel that I have a clear future for…

Immigration is an important part of United States’ history. Between the years of 1870 and 1910, more than 20 million individuals migrated to the nation. As the years progressed, many of the American natives began to treat migrants unfairly. The group of migrants that I have chosen to focus on is the Chinese. Many Chinese migrants dwelled together in Los Angeles’s Chinatown.…

The volume of the Asian American Journal of Psychology that I selected was volume 5(4), and from December 2014. In the article, “Weight, body dissatisfaction and disordered eating: Asian American women’s perspectives” by Rebekah Smart and Yuying Tsong, they wanted to describe some experiences Asian American women had with eating and with body issues. To do this, they wanted to hear from the women themselves on how they depict symptoms, causes, and attitudes toward wellness. The significance of this topic is that there are many Asian American women who are suffering from eating disorders, but they are missed or overlooked because they do no show all they symptoms according to European American standards.…

This week’s articles readings were basically a sum up to what we have learned throughout the semester till this day. The problems were discrimination, stereotyping, racism, education, and finding identity. Asian Americans have faced discrimination with all its kinds.…

There are 23,983,000 African-American, Asian American, Pacific Islander, and Hispanic female workers employed in the work force. Out of these minority groups: African-American, Pacific Islander, and Hispanic, the total earnings gap is significantly lower than the White female, which is significantly lower on average than that of the White male. However, Asian American women are the only female minority group that makes more than White women, and in some cases, makes more than White men. Out of all the minority groups, why does the Asian American make more than her other female counterparts? It appears that there is a correlation between education and total earnings, since the female Asian American statistically gets a higher education; she…

My results showed me that each person’s race did not affect who they chose the woman they were shown, no matter the race of the image. Although, the Asian women’s group was the most difficult for most people, this can be proved because the question containing the Asian woman that needed to be selected was the most missed question. But overall, every racial group I tested got above a 95% average. This may be due to an imbalance of data collected from each group, because the data goes against other experiments similar to this one; one experiment being the work by Kent State University psychologist Daniel T. Levin, phD, who had suggested people recognize certain faces by the color of their skin and others by their individual features, which semi-relates to how my experiment was designed. I reject my hypothesis partially because all racial groups directly mentioned answered better than I expected.…

Throughout history, Asian women have been made into sinister, sexual beings. A long history of Asian women being degraded and viewed as nothing but sex workers, has led to them being viewed in an extremely hypersexualized light. In recent years, many people have become more aware of this issue, and it has become topic of debate. Many believe that allowing Asian women to act out their sexuality in ways that are reflective of racialized sexuality is harmful because it allows said stereotypes to continue. Others believe that that point of view is limiting and harmful to Asian female sexuality.…

I think for me the hardest culture to work with would be the Asian. I know very little about the people. I understand that the Japanese and the Chinese are very different. I have also heard that a lot of the Asian people have prejudices and have been known to discriminate against the people of Korean lineage, I have no idea why. The Asian community consists of many languages Mandarin being the largest, I would guess it is because it is spoken by the people in China, who’s…

Being part of the generation who grew up watching Fast and the Furious films has always made me want to drive a car. At that time I knew I still had a while before I could drive, but any chance I got to be in the driver seat I would. My first time I ever got behind the wheel was right after I watch the fast and the furious in 2001. It was during the summer, my mom was washing her car and according to her “I accidently locked myself inside and somehow I managed to turn the car on and started backing up the car.” My mom was so scared she started yelling “put the car on park” “put the car on park” but I had no clue what she meant.…

I had not ever been in a car accident before in my life, so when I experienced one, I did not enjoy nearly dying. It happened four years ago, I can still vividly remember everything. I was with my sister, Nakesha, she was driving since I was not old enough to drive yet. We were having a good day and had decided to go to my dad’s for a while to see him since our parents are divorced. We spent a considerable amount of time with our dad who kept making us laugh like he always does.…
