One of my passions is to see underrepresented groups dignified and recognized. One way I pursued this passion was to help a group of students at my school establish a club that supported their interests in ways they had not been before. I experienced this in my tenth grade year when a group of students passionate about anime vocalized that they were not being represented in any after school activities. These students wanted to exhibit that passion in an organized and acknowledged school program. I saw this as a problem and used my power as a grade level senator in the Student Government Association (SGA) to help them; I was able to propose and organize an after school Anime Club for those students who needed another outlet to exhibit their artistic and cultural passion. Another example of when I have made my community a better place is in my own church. Since the tenth grade year, I have volunteered regularly in my church’s children's department, where there are a number of children with special needs. I work with these kids each week to ensure that they are taken care of, fed, and read to. Both of these groups deserve something more from society; I believe that the most vulnerable need to be taken care of, those without a voice should be represented, and most importantly they both need to know that society has not turned its back on them.
