Should marijuana be legalized?
There is no shortage on either side of this debate as to whether marijuana should be legalized or not.
The question of legalizing marijuana involves changing the law (Federal Controlled Substances Act) to make it legal to produce, sell and possess in specific quantities. By legalizing marijuana, the black market for drug dealers will dwindle resulting in less violence, less illegal sales, less people in prisons for trafficking and using and the temptation for corruption.
I support the right of terminally ill or seriously sick people to help themselves, even by using marijuana as medicine for pain relief. Placing restrictions on using marijuana interferes with a person’s freedom, it should be their right to

Marijuana is not a dangerous drug, in the way that narcotics and other hard drugs are. The drug generally isn't more harmful than alcohol or tobacco if used in moderation. Most of the American public sees the risk of marijuana use as lower than hard drugs and even alcohol with occasional use. It's only when you abuse the drug that problems start to occur. But isn't abuse of almost any bad substance a problem? Therefore, people should be allowed to use marijuana as long as they are not harming others. People that are opposed to legalizing marijuana usually argue that illegal drugs are addictive and can hurt society at large and the user themselves. We can agree that the potential risk of using marijuana long term or the ones that have high levels of THC (the psychoactive chemical that makes people high) is a valid point.
