What Are Tasmanian Devils?

Tasmanian devils belong to the phylum Chordata. Animals in this phylum has a variety of characteristics which include “a notochord, which is a skeletal rod, made of cartilage, that supports the body, a dorsal hollow nerve cord which is a bundle of nerve fibres that connects the brain with lateral muscles and other organs, pharyngeal slits which are openings connecting the inside of the throat to the neck (can be used as gills) and finally a post-anal tail, which is the extension of the body past the anal opening,” (Berkeley.edu, n.d). Tasmanian devils possess all characteristics listed, but some may only be present during the embryonic development, meaning the development of their young inside the mother.
