What are students ' plans after high school? Most students would respond to this question with, “I 'm going to college,” but is college worth it? That is the million dollar question. It seems like every job requires a college degree, but why? Why does someone who has spent $70,000 to go to a 4-year college has a better chance at getting a job, than someone who just has a high school diploma. There’s a saying that goes, “I would rather be my own tyrant than have someone else tyrannize me.”(Henry Flagler) Meaning, why should anyone let another person, or society, tell them how they should live their life. Why is it that students feel like they have to go to college, when college is not fit for everyone? Society tries to embed “Go to college” into every child’s mind because most people believe in order to live the “American Dream” you have to go to college. There is a quote that states, “A book should be the axe to break the frozen sea within us.”(Kafka). Why does it just have to be a book to break the frozen sea? Maybe a musician needs a microphone to break their frozen sea, or maybe an artist just needs a paint brush or clay to break their frozen sea.
