Great job, Allison. Nurses do face a variety of ethical dilemmas on a daily basis. Our main priority is to maintain the safety of each and every patient. When faced with an ethical issue, the nurse must first take a moment to review the issue at hand. From there the nurse can come up with a solution to fix the issue. Many times it may require the nurse to seek help from others. As you have stated, the nurse may need to express his or her feeling to others. Depending on the issue the nurse may find a solution, or the nurse may have to just accept what he or she cannot change, such as with my example regarding withholding information from a patient (Chaowalit, Hatthakit, Nasae, & Suttharangsee, 2002).
