Radiopharmaceuticals are radioactive drugs that, used for the purpose of diagnosis or therapy. Radiopharmaceuticals are used to diagnose certain medical problems or treat certain diseases. They may be given to the patient in several different ways. For example, they may be given by mouth, given by injection, or placed into the eye or into the bladder.
Every organ in our bodies acts differently from a chemical point of view. There is a number of chemicals which are absorbed by specific organs. For example the thyroid takes up iodine and the brain consumes quantities of glucose. Radiopharmacists are able to attach various radioisotopes to biologically active substances.
