1. What are my own beliefs about young children from particular cultural groups?
My personal belief about these children is that because they come from different cultures, then they might not have the same beliefs. I always make it a habit to learn more about where my students come from as well as trying to learn about their culture. For my older students, I will often ask them specific questions regarding their culture. For my younger students, I will ask them where they are from and then look at the culture myself. Around the holidays, I will ask them if they do this or that to learn first had what they do exactly.

I do feel that the more I learn about one’s culture, the more it will help assist me in order to incorporate specific instructions within my own classroom, but to say that I have certain beliefs right now- I do not feel that I do. I am very open minded and understand that we are all different. I do not feel that our differences affect my teachings. However, this may change with the more classroom experience and more culture exposure that I have.

4. What similarities and differences do I believe exist between social interaction in the classroom and social interaction in the child’s home environment?
Because we have a lot of Hispanic students whose parents only speak Spanish, I feel that one difference between classroom and home social interaction is that these students might only speak Spanish in their homes to talk with their parents, whereas they speak as much English as they can during classroom interaction. I also feel that there might not be as much social interaction at home compared to the classroom if/when a child’s parents have to work a lot.

I do know some things here and there, but I am still unsure about every single detail regarding all cultures. Last year I had a few students from Egypt and I loved learning anything and everything that they were willing to tell me. I even read a book that they checked out for me about Egypt. I know various things because students will either tell me on their own or I will ask them. I mostly know a lot about the Hispanic/Latino culture because this population was the biggest in my school a few years ago; however, now we are getting more students from Egypt, Pakistan, and
