What Are My Key Characteristics

Decent Essays
Some of my key characteristics is my ability to be observant, my dependability, and my ability to remain calm in times of distress. As a person, I am sensitive to my environment and like to know what is going on at all times. Part of this has to do with my school and the small, tightknit community that thrives here. My experience in high school has taught me the importance of communication and teamwork. I find comfort in knowing that although we are competitive, we will never leave another classmate behind to fail. We take pride in succeeding as a collective group. This, I have found, has made me more in tune with my surrounding and has made me more observant. Recently I was awarded the Student of the Month and FBLA Member of the Month award.

I admit, I’ve always been a bit of an introvert. In high school, if there was an opportunity to lead or stand out, I hurried in the opposite direction, I was too self-conscious to participate in any situation where I might fail or face abashment, and I particularly avoided events where I would have to interact with people. Therefore, if you were to tell me back then that I would describe myself as ambitious, intellectually curious, and socially responsible, I would look at you dumbfounded. However, since leaving high school, an extensive range of experiences has led me to transform from follower to leader. One of my greatest experiences was attending Radford University for my first Bachelors.…

What even is a leader anymore? The word “leader” has lost it's value over time and “leaders” that students look up to in school nowadays are the popular kids that wear brand name clothes and are disrespectful to their peers and superiors. When most people think of a “leader” they think of someone who is very outgoing and not afraid to take charge in certain situations. While that may be true in some people, I feel that being a leader requires much more than these qualities, it requires more than just expecting people to follow in whatever they do when they do it. It requires time, interpersonal relationships, and most importantly it requires genuine care and love for the people around us.…

According to MyPlan.com, my personality is introverted, intuitive, feeler, and perceiver (INFP). When I first started taking the assessment, I wondered if I should be dishonest to get the best possible answer or if I should be totally honest with everything. I decided to be completely honest and the results I received were mainly accurate. It shocked me that a theory from 1921 still applied to me today in 2016. While there is most certainly concern in regard to the area of compassion fatigue and countertransference, there is no way to teach the level of understanding that comes from having gone through a similar experience.
