Leonardo da Vinci was many things. He was a scientist, an inventor, and an engineer, along with many other things. He was also one of the most gifted artists of his time if not of all time. Leonardo also used science as a way to further his ability as an artist. Just like in all aspects of life you must learn how to observe many things to learn even more things about the world around you, and that is exactly what he did. He would dissect animals, even though he was a vegetarian, and perform autopsies on humans to learn more about the bone structure or the muscles and nerves so he could best represent it in his art.
