With more free time, Manson was able to spend more time writing his twisted fantasies into short stories, novellas, and poems he sent to magazines such as Night Terrors, Penthouse, The Horror Show, and The American Atheist in hopes to have his work published. Unfortunately, only one short story from his many works was published by a small journal called, The Writer’s Block. Manson attended Broward Community College where he studied journalism and theater and wrote for the college newspaper. Later, he went into rock criticism for a local freebie entertainment guide called, “Tonight Today”. Eventually, he lied his way into 25th Parallel, a magazine where he wrote about rock music. Manson used his job as a journalist to promote himself and his band, but due to being the journalist writing the stories, he had to create a stage name to promote, hence, Marilyn Manson. Although he wrote several stories over interviews with other bands, his favorite story was about his aspirations for journalism and horror. In his next big story, he never expected to meet a beautiful woman and fall in love only to have his heart broken. Manson covered a story about the world of B (bondage) and D (discipline) where he met Mistress Barbara, a young woman with fiery red hair, curves, and well-defined cheekbones. As many bands do, they struggled and replaced different band members, but unlike other bands, they had their own signature look, names, and style. No other band was quite as dark and twisted as Marilyn Manson, formerly known as Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids, during their rise to stardom. During the beginning, Manson’s shows were wild, violent, and included self-mutilation and beating the woman who was attached to his leash (Manson & Strauss,
