Reading Response #4 As I was reading chapter four, I realized how important peer relationships can be. Even though the teacher should be trying to build a relationship with each student, there is only one teacher and there are 24 other students. So the majority of interactions are with peers. This made me see how important it is to set up the classroom environment early. Establishing the classroom interaction and environment earlier was a key thought from the author. I would agree that it is important to create positive and encouraging vibes so students can learn. I stopped to think about my classes now at Carroll and their environments. We have had many classes together and become comfortable while my other classes do not seem to focus on peer relationships. I loved all the icebreaker games that the author gave as resources and many were similar to ones I played. As I read the games, I reflected on several of my own experiences with icebreakers. While I think the concept is important I remember several games that made me more shy and uncomfortable. I was a pretty introverted and quiet student, in high school I always knew a majority of the class but I still felt embarrassed or put on the spot when I had to give a fun fact or list out all my favorite things. I was worried that my answers would be to boring or weird. This experience makes me cautious to choose any icebreaker that puts students on the spot and forces them to open up. However, because I would agree with the author on the importance of an open environment, I want to steer away from potentially embarrassing icebreakers while still creating a
