Despite the differentiating gun laws amongst states, the majority of US citizens can purchase military grade assault rifles, known as ARs. Different to normal firearms, ARs feature a semi-automatic feature, where one trigger is equivalent to one round of the gun fired from the bullets in the magazine. The Sandy High Elementary School shooting on the 14th of December 2012 was testament to the deadliness of assault rifles. A single man, Adam Peter Lanza and his assault rifle left 27 innocent humans massacred, making it one of the most fatal shootings in America, as stated by The Inquisitr. This is around the amount of students in our class, everyone in here, dead. If a normal gun was used, that is one bullet per round, as opposed to 27 bullets per round, would there be as many innocent lives claimed? ARs continue to demonstrate its lethality in American society therefore must be banned to reduce such mass shootings.
On the contrary, some argue that “guns don’t kill people, people kill people.” However, the fact of the matter is that weak gun laws allow people to kill people with more ease. By pulling one simple trigger, lives are lost. With the introduction to stricter gun laws, dangerous criminals are restricted from purchasing firearms. Therefore, mortality rates will decrease, thus reducing the amount of avoidable
