What Are Edgar Hoover's Accomplishments

Two civil servants who worked for the U.S Government gave birth to a baby boy, John Edgar Hoover on January 1, 1895. Three blocks away from Capitol Hill, Washington D.C he lived with his mother until her death in 1938, when Hoover was 43 years old. Hoover was highly competitive and determined to overcome a stuttering problem by learning to talk fast. He joined the debate team when he was in high school and achieved some notoriety. Hoover worked for Library of Congress because of his interest in politics. He took night classes and after graduating from Georgetown University Law School, he finally earned his degree in 1917. He labeled Martin Luther King “the most dangerous Negro in the future of this nation,” Hoover had individuals following him around twenty-four seven determined to find evidence to use against him. In the fact that COINTELPRO’s tactics were illegal, they were soon revealed to the public in 1971. The agency’s methods included, “infiltration, burglaries, illegal wiretaps, planted evidence, and false rumors leaked on suspected groups and individuals” (Web Bio). J. His determination began to show while he was growing up. As a kid, in the fact that he had a speech problem, stuttering, he was determined to get over it. So, Hoover found a solution for it and pursued it. He learned to speak really fast and practiced until he got. Just like when Hoover was younger, as he grew up if he found a problem he would find a solution and make it happen. He was an enterprising individual. Albeit he is a go-getter, he was ruthless. His determination made him want to break the law and go against the constitution by investigating profiles without permission (proving he was investigative), scrimmaging through places without a warrant, and overuse of surveillance. Considering that Hoover was gay, adds to the fact that he was secretive. At the time period Hoover was alive, being homosexual could cost you your job, since he was so dedicated to his job, he never let anyone even suspect that he was homosexual. Before Hoover took over the FBI, it was just like many other law enforcement agencies with lazy, out of shape, and politically appointed employees.
