The United States of America is founded on its diversity and the freedoms to be different. The differences from person to person are seemingly innumeral but one basic human need that all individuals share is the desire to be treated fairly and equally. Webster’s dictionary defines “Diversity” as the state of having people who are different races or who have different cultures in a group or organization.” In the marketplace today, technology has driven business to become global so diversity is inevitable. Of course the common denominator in most business is the quest for profit and in today’s global economy, diversity is embraced because it can help a business reach its profit potential. Diversity means a broader audience and a broader audience can translate into more customers which in turn provides a better opportunity for profit. A business that diversifies its audience has to employ people and services that are diverse. There in lies the struggle in the workplace: honoring the basic human need to be treated fairly and equally without prejudice, to embrace diversity at the human level and not just as a business
