Amir can be describe as selfish considering his privileged background in Kabul with his father, Baba being wealthy. But Amir is also insecure, jealous, and at times cruel. Amir looked up to Baba for everything he has done, but Baba doesn’t really treat Amir like the world’s best son and at most times is disappointed in him. Amir felt that Baba favored Hasson over him. Despite Hasson just being a servant. In actuality Hasson was also baba’s son but that’s another story. In the story Baba’s states: “If I hadn’t seen the doctor pull him out of my wife with my own eyes, I’d never believe he’s my son.” (Hosseini 81) This quote showed exactly how he felt about his son Amir.
