What Archeology Has Peaked My Interest

Decent Essays
History involves so many aspects of opportunities to learn and grow from, as a person. All my life, I have grown up in historic homes, wandered through antique stores with my mother, and spent weekends touring historical sites. Leave me in a museum with artifacts, informational videos, and astonishing aspects of the past and I will be the definition of content. My passion for the past has always been within me, as my Grandma has always referred to me as an old soul. Archeology has peaked my interest as well, and I hope to pursue that profession. Majoring in History will help me to be a better archeologist when the time comes. I appreciate what has happened to those before, and feel as though we could, today, learn from the past to better our

Whenever someone travels to a new location they may not realize how much history truly lies before them. Some students including myself would actually enjoy learning about the place they visit by taking a city tour and actually seeing all these sights instead of reading about it from a textbook in a boring classroom. For example, when I went on a family vacation a couple of years ago I learned more information about the beautiful city of Puerto Vallarta than I would have ever learned in a classroom. The information that I obtained from the trip varied from how the city was built all those years ago to how much the people of the city truly do respect…

History has always been a big part of my life. I remember in first grade pouring all of my affections onto the historical fiction American girl doll books in the elementary school library and imagining myself as a Swedish immigrant in 1854, or as a young patriot in 1774. During second and third grade I devoted my free time to reading about the Civil War and the Spanish explorers that conquested through my native Florida. In fourth grade I remember leaping through a native american pottery exhibit on a field trip to Tallahassee, desperately trying to obtain all of the knowledge the signs held before being dragged away by my classmates and chaperone. On a fifth grade field trip I was left behind at an exhibit at the Kennedy Space Center because I was too engrossed in the history of rhesus monkeys being shot into space to notice that my entire class had moved on to the I-Max theater.…

The similarities between Athenian and American Democracy Once a writer said, “History is not the past, but a map of the past drawn from a particular point of view to be useful to the modern traveler”(Glassie). There are a number of reasons why I want to pursue a teaching credential at California State University, Long Beach. First, some of the most enjoyable times in my life have occurred when I have been teaching. My first teaching experience was when I was twenty as a camp counselor. It was a camp for junior high school students and I got to teach them in groups and one on one with each student. I was in locum parentis for one week with each group of junior high school students.…

I have always had a passion for history and storytelling since I was a child and decided in seventh grade world history class that I wanted to be an archaeologist, discovering ancient cultures and uncovering their secrets. I maintained this plan, arriving at Boston University as an archaeology major but after several semesters of study realized that it wasn’t the exact path for me. I began to grow my appreciation of museums, admiring how they could ignite wonder, curiosity, and learning in myself and others. I realized this was where I felt most at home. Therefore, I decided to change my major to art history, while retaining an archaeology minor, and explore history through the lens of artist’s interpretations and ideas.…

Learning about how humans evolved helps us to understand how our bodies work, and how they were meant to function. Studying the communication of the human race helps to bridge cultural and linguistic gaps, both between different cultures and between modern civilizations and those that came before us. Finding the personal belongings of people who lived thousands of years ago can tell us how they lived, what they valued most, and even, in some cases, how and why they died. Studying how modern culture affects us today, as a civilization made up of all sorts of different cultures, helps us to solve problems in our society and to make the world better for the people who will inherit the earth after…

When most people think of a history class they imagine sitting in a dark lecture hall taking notes off a PowerPoint presentation, memorizing a few dates and people, repeating it on the test. Truly studying history, I learned, is more than memorization of a previously told story and accepting it as true. In this class I have learned history is about actively engaging the material, picking apart the details and nuances, creating and using timelines, finding deeper meaning in the material, asking questions, then looking again and digging deeper. It is not a passive study and not about memorization as I believed at the beginning of the semester. History is about asking questions and looking for answers, not just accepting what is already there, but…
