Disrespect. Broken Promises. Disastrous Plans. How could one man be so delusional in trying to fix his nations problems and only creating chaos and destruction. P!nk is aiming at the United States government and authorities for letting down the common people of the US. She communicates this in her song ‘What About Us’ from her Beautiful Trauma album. ‘What About Us’ is a protest song that bemoans Donald Trump and his government for endangering the rights of US citizens. P!nk expresses her thoughts on “The Man’s” broken promises, plans ending in disaster & trust less ruling.

“What About Us” includes a number of structural elements and musical features which support P!nk in message of the song. The verses have inconsistent rhyming schemes and are quite slower than the chorus, whereas the choruses are upbeat and have a consistent rhyme in all of them. Even though in the song the rhyme scheme is quite inconsistent the rhyme in the choruses “us” is constant. The bridge is another verse where P!nk is asking the government will they be ready for whatever will happen. The musical elements of this song are varying in tempo and pace which creates an emotional club ballad or a dance floor anthem feel. The events that occurred for this song to be written were Donald Trump and how he promised the people of America all of these great things. However, when he rose to power he never fulfilled promises. “What about all the times you said had the answers?” This talks about when Trump was trying to win the election he said he had the answers to all the USA’s problems. However, when he was elected and started to rule America he never had the answers to fix America’s problems. She is also bemoaning the way authorities let down the common people & US citizens who will be in danger of their rights in Trump’s
