Ambrose talks about how positive Jefferson was about the expansion and how Jefferson and all of the settlers were there to support the expansion across the West. By having everyone to help with the expansion makes it an even better decision to expand. Ambrose states a clear and understanding picture in readers minds about how well thought out the plan to expand was. Before all the settlers began to expand Lewis and Clark explored the Western territory to make sure that moving Westward would have a positive effect on the American white settlers.
In the article “Chief Joseph Speaks,” by Chief Joseph, he talks about the positive outcome expanding West would have on people. He states “Treat all men alike.” By moving to the West the men were gaining more rights and more land. Overall they were all being treated equally. Yes, the Indians were being pushed off their homeland, but were being moved to new land. The expansion was a good overall plan because everyone was either gaining new freedoms or they were getting new
