The halls of Westlake High School are filled with several amazing teachers. Ranging from the enthusiastic English teachers to the down-to-earth Chemistry teachers, this high school has a unique and eccentric staff. Yet out of all the teachers that fill the school grounds, only two teachers have earned the title of being my favorites. Those two teachers are my junior year Art History teacher Ms Darrow and my senior year European History teacher Ms Cluck. Both being history teachers, they shined a light on a school subject that many tend to dismiss the importance of. Their energy, knowledge and charisma made taking these two courses one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Both these women have affected my life and education tremendously and I know that they’ve …show more content…
It might sound a bit childish for a high school teacher to do, but that’s what made the course even better. She wanted us to bond with each other as well as her and with that we almost became a small family of art historians. Her presentations never bored me and I always intrigued by her knowledge of the subject. She knew how to explain things without making it dull and she always kept the energy in the class up and moving. Even though Ms Darrow is magnificent in what she does, she does have a worthy opponent, Ms Cluck. The European History teacher with a ridiculous last name may as well be the queen of Westlake High School. She may be a grown woman, but her understanding of teenage life is so astounding that it makes her a favorite among students. She is often described as a happy-go-lucky and witty person who always wants to keep the atmosphere positive. Cluck doesn’t have the level of passion Darrow has for teaching, but what she lacks in ardor she makes it up with her love for her

The desks in the classrooms were set up for collaborative learning which seemed to really work for her students. Mrs. Gaither also did great job in teaching with all the different learning styles so that she could reach each student’s preference. After each assignment, Mrs. Gaither went around to each individual student and went over their answers with the student. Based on what answers they got wrong is where she would focus more attention. I found this style of teacher very helpful to each student because it wasn’t just as a whole.…

George Whitefield, an Englishman born to a humble inn keeping family, grew up to be a widely known and loved Calvinist priest. Having first been an unmotivated student, the Word of God captivated him and ignited a fire in his bones; a fire that could only be fed and tamed by proclaiming salvation by faith alone all across England and the New World. Yet, every proclaimer of the faith has faced opposition whether it be in the form of renunciation or becoming a martyr. It is a known fact that since much is given to us from the Lord that much is also required. Christians endure much hostility, from all kinds of fronts.…

One company that I previously interned for and would be interested in pursuing a career at is WGBH, a radio and television facility located in the Brighton suburb of Boston, Massachusetts. The first thing I wanted to know is what the call letters WGBH stand for. After some research I discovered that the “W” – indicates that the station is located east of the Mississippi River (a “K” is used for stations to the west) and “GBH” - stands for Great Blue Hill (named for the blue hue of the granite found there) which is located within the Blue Hills Reservation in Milton and Canton, Massachusetts. It is the highest point in the area and was the site of the station’s first transmitter.…

1 I come from a long line of educators and administrators on both sides of my family. Various relatives of mine have taught me to understand and appreciate the importance of education. This being the case, they have inspired my decision to be a teacher, preferably an elementary school teacher. Last year, I sat in on my aunt’s third grade class at Washington Irving, an elementary school in my district that I attended for three years. After visiting the classroom a handful of times, I absolutely fell in love.…

Last week, as I was strolling past a middle school, I saw a teacher sitting down next to a student. The teacher was giving advice to the student. The image of the teacher helping the student reminded me of when my English teacher would help me with my assignments. I enrolled in Advanced Placement English Language and Composition in my junior year at Grant High School. AP English was rumored to be a very tenacious class and the teacher, Ms. Warfield, was known for giving perplexing reading articles for homework.…

Beginning my junior year of high school, I had enrolled in an AP Art History class in hopes of gaining college course experience and credit. Though at first intimidated by the extensive lectures, readings, and writing the class demanded I then started to enjoy the curriculum being taught. The teacher taught the course with what seemed like infectious enthusiasm to the point where the work seemed less demanding and more fulfilling. My junior year also provided me with the opportunity to travel to two of the most pinnacle artistic cities in the world, Paris and Rome. All the knowledge learned from my AP Art History class proved to have resonated within me as I found myself serving as an enthusiastic tour guide for my fellow classmates as we traveled…

Now that we are at the end of the Spring 2016 semester, it is time to reflect on the History Department’s exciting year. I don’t normally like to turn my back on people, but I wanted to model the History Student Association’s new t-shirt. We are scholars who are “in-betweeners.” “Our minds are in the past, our bodies in the present, and our aspirations in the future.”…

Being an after school “coach” is not as easy as one might think, the hardest part , if i do say so myself, is learning how to, not just simply be a “coach” or “teacher figure”, but to really find the best technique to do so. Not a single person on this earth is the exact same equivalent as someone else, that being said, we all learn differently from one another. That is probably the single most important thing that stood out for me in my experiences working with students, however i do find that most teaching styles are definitely more successful when the teacher uses illustrations, examples, and hands on based education. For example, sixth grade was perhaps the most memorable school year of all my educational years, because, although I may…
