The Fall of the Western Roman Empire The Western Roman Empire has had many bad situations. There were an abundance amount of circumstances that caused the fall of the Western Roman Empire. The fall of the Western Roman Empire was due to economic situations, introduction to Christianity, slavery, and their militaries. The Roman Empire had been in bad cases for a long period. The circumstances have been severe and has had a major impact to the Western Roman Empire. They are all the same influence back when the empire was declining. The Roman government had large expenses because they used most of their money on the maintenance of their army. The effect of the high taxation led tenants to flee from their farms and businessmen and workmen from their occupation. The establishment of a governmental welfare system made people lean on the the government for welfare. People learned to expect something from nothing (Haskell, n.d.) The problems of the military is also what contributed to the fall of the Western Roman Empire. There was a lack of Roman soldiers for armies(Montanelli, n.d.). Without any soldiers foreigners filled in their spots (Montanelli, n.d.). With the foreigners filling the spot, the Germans composed the poorly trained army. The army was not loyal to Rome since the soldiers were not from Rome(Montanelli, n.d.). The army basically fought for money rather than fighting for Rome. One cause that resulted in the fall of the Roman Empire were the Germanic Invasions. the Angles and Saxons swept into Britain, forcing Rome to abandon the island.
