American exceptionalism, is the self-image that guides media to use practices of media in its favor. Not only does it influence the released material, but the manner in which the material is framed. For instance, the West will never release negative information, or information that can be negative to the government where as tensions abroad will highlight flaws thus creating tension. Western perspective on themselves is superior. Global news is usually reported in a way that highlights what the great democracy is doing in response to a threat, heroic actions, and diplomatic safety. Western informational outlets rather point the best part out when dealing with external issues rather than their internal flaws, for instance take September 11, or the way that that they describe a simple matter such as Muslim women. Muslim women do not feel oppressed, but since the western hemisphere prides themselves in liberation and freedom this is therefore not common in the culture eluding to the concept of American exceptionalism.
