Jenkins (2006) Argues that we all know something, but as individuals, we do not know everything. This is a concept that Wikipedia was built upon as elucidated by Mesgari (2015) by stating “Wikipedia is purportedly aimed at incorporating all human knowledge within an encyclopedia”. We could think of Wikipedia as a knowledge community, which is formed as a process to compensate for the inability of an individual or corporation to understand everything (Jenkins, H. 2006). Wikipedia then allows individuals to make use of this information that is collectively created by a collective. Therefore, we could say that Wikipedia has surpassed some of the issues presented in more dated mediums of mass media. Wikipedia has not only become a source of information for individuals in a variety of topics, but also has provided with an involved community that works collaboratively in improving the information that is created. In light of the level of use Wikipedia is eliciting and the collaborative nature of providing “human knowledge” base information, I can propose that Wikipedia is a very important mass medium.
