Further, Westchester Playa Village is a great organization, but there are some things I will add to improve the service. There may be some limitation for this organization because they may not have the funding, so it is hard to meet all the needs. To improve the service, I think they should provide volunteers with a picture and a brief background about each member, and then they should provide the members with a picture and a brief background of the volunteers. Of course, they will have to receive the consent from the volunteers and the senior citizens that are seeking service before they can send their information. Westchester Playa Village provides volunteers with the names of the senior citizens, but we do not know what they look like or who they are. While volunteering I did not know what the person looked like that I was picking up, so I had to guess who they were. On the same …show more content…
If they have any parties or events, these events are held at Westchester Senior Citizen Center. So, I think they should create a Westchester Playa Village Center where volunteers and members can gather together and get to know each other. This center will be similar to a senior citizen center, but Westchester Playa Village will run the center. This gives volunteers and senior citizens the chance to leave their homes and meet in a place where they can interact with each other. Volunteers can transport members to the center and they can have events such as game night. Some volunteers may not want to go a senior citizen’s home, so this gives them the option of another place to meet with members. As stated by Klinenberg, the elderly that was isolated and lived in high crime areas was the population that was most at risk during that time. Although both communities are located near each other, there is huge differences between them. First of all, Little Village was mostly Hispanic while North Lawndale was primarily African American. Volunteering at Veterans Affairs Medical Center was one of the greatest experience I've ever had. Sitting down with the elderly and getting to know them, I noticed if more teens could actually sit down and take the time to talk to an elderly person they could gain an opulent amount of knowledge. Sitting down and getting to talk an innumerable amount of veterans as I could, I was intrigued by how each person had a story of their own going through WWII. Voluntarily, I was able to contribute to the organization by having open conversations with the veterans, providing beverages, and having a great time. It wasn't till the end of the program when my perception began to change about the organization I volunteered for, it's more than just about kids…

Goffman’s concept of front and back space regarding the self is also applicable to the social aspect of Coney Island; Goffman recognized that “the self is that collection of performances that take place in and across specific locations” (Goffman 50). The front, or representational space, of Coney Island is what gained notoriety and fostered an image of family friendliness as well as an escape from reality. Coney Island was a sort of dreamscape where the upper and middle classes had the opportunity to engage in what society deemed as proper forms of recreation. The front space of Coney Island should also be considered representational space; Lefebvre describes representational space as “the space of inhabitants and users. It is the passively…
