I will be writing a play review of West Side Story. The lyricist Stephen Sondheim born in New York on 22nd March 1930, was inspired to write West side story based on William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The play is targeted to an audience of aged 15 and above as it has mature and complicated themes to understand, however if you do understand it then it is a good play to watch. 25-35 year olds will enjoy it the most as it is based on relationships and it is perhaps more appealing to the feminine side of an audience with it being a love story. Before seeing this play, I expected it to be quite laborious, nonetheless, it surprised me as the play kept you on the edge of the seat making you guess what is going to happen next. The characters were very realistic and you could tell that they were really getting into character and the accents were excellent and very real. The Puerto Ricans had a good Spanish accent, which made it very realistic, they showed good technique to keep the accent going throughout the play. I didn’t know much about the play before we watched it but it became a lot clearer when we saw the two gangs started fighting you could tell that it was based on Romeo and Juliet so they did well portraying this at the start of the play. The themes of the play were Love and hate, love being the main one was as Maria and Tony fell in love however, they were from two different gangs who hated each other, a sharp contrast. Relationships were a very important theme that ran through the play as there were many. That’s all we saw from many different characters but it came back to haunt them as it was relationships that ended because of the rivalry. Another major theme was death as members of the group died due to the rivalry going on. The characters acting were believable as they really got into their roles as you could see the passion in their facial expression and they got the audience going which gave a positive vibe. Some of the characters were realistic such as the main characters but the background actors were not as strong and their acting was a bit flat and had no energy. The relationship on stage between Maria and Anita seemed to be most realistic, they had connection on the stage they would help each other out, and that looks respectable on stage the best scenes was the scene between each other. The characters did stay in character throughout and you could tell that they have practiced a lot over the last couple of months. They made it as realistic. The had a lot if lines to learn throughout and I don’t think they messed up once which was really

On the evening of Saturday October 8th, the cast of the play Fuddy Meers took the stage and put on a unique and exquisite performance. The play took place in the Temple Theatre which I found was a highly interesting venue. There were several different elements that I found greatly intriguing during the course of the ninety minute performance, however, there were a few elements that I felt were also lacking. The first element that I believed helped to add significance to the performance was the stage setup(1). The revolving setup of the stage was perfect for this play and it allowed much versatility for the characters during specific instances.…

On November 22nd , 2015 , I had attended a play “A servant of Two masters” that played downtown Pittsburgh at the O’Reilly theater, the play was directed by Ted Pappas. He had put together a creative and intriguing play, having actors stay spontaneous and interact with the audience, therefore no parts would be found boring nor dry. All the actors had held up their end of their roles quite well, by fully disguising themselves as that character they were suppose to be during the entire play. In the play “A Servant of Two masters” is about a girl Clarice who originally had an arranged marriage but was called off due to her fiancé death, who was Federigo Rasponi of Turin.…

On October 28, 2017, I attended Desert Hot Springs High School’s theatrical performance, Love Sick, a play produced by John Cariani. Mr. Landmann is the head director of the theater department at DHSHS and was able to execute a great show with the help of his students: Matilde Alejandro, Megan Johnson, Bethany Navarro, Luis Salazar, Nathaniel Esparza, Natalia Martinez, Angel Limas, Esmeralda Hernandez, Esmeralda Salazar, Nicholas Jacob Gamboa, Baylee Bryant, Jonathan Calderon, Erika Aleman, Jesus Hernandez, Austin Aguirre, Edna Escobedo, Anjali Singh, Angel Ramirez, Elijah Cross, Michelle Lopez, Alondra Campos, Sadie Cunningham, Joseph Arisco, Maya Souza, Efrain Flores, Kimberly Solano, and Zauriah Cotton. Love/Sick is a play that contains lovers and dreamers that look into the agony and the happiness that comes with being in love and in relationships. To begin with, the plot of the play was very straightforward and unmissable. It outlined all the effects, good and bad, that comes with being in a relationship as well as depicting all the dilemmas.…

The play Wit, written by Margaret Edson, is full of intriguing characters that develop in their own ways throughout the play. Despite the many characters, there is one that really caught my attention. Susie, the nurse, is a character unlike any of the others. Edson gave her characteristics to separate her from the others and make her a standout character. Susie is the mother character of the play, meaning she is kind-hearted and caring, unlike the other characters.…

The play “Rumors”, by Neil Simon, is an interesting tale of lies, confusion, and, most importantly, rumors. The Wrangler Theater production of this play really brought out its best, and blew me away. Firstly, the main theme for this play would best be summarized by the Mark Twain quote, “If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.” The entire play is basically about miscommunication and lying in an effort to avoid scandal.…

One significant theme that is prevalent throughout the play is lies and deceit. Miller applies the theme of lies and deceit throughout the play which plays a hefty role in the plot.
