Whether it is through religion, sexuality, or politics, people today are still allowing fear to control their lives.The West Memphis Three case encompasses three male teenagers implicated of murdering three third grade boys. The citizens of West Memphis, Arkansas were blinded by their fear of the boys; as a result of these fears the teenagers were wrongfully convicted. The Crucible by Arthur Miller is based on the Witch Trials of Salem, Massachusetts in the 1600s. In The Crucible, the main people accused of witchcraft were slaves and women, who were different from everyone else. The accused did not go to church every Sunday which was looked down upon. As a Puritan your goal was to serve God and do everything in your power to not receive his wrath. In The Crucible several of the people accused were women who tried to stray from the Puritan lifestyle or they were committing numerous sins. These people were believed to be working for Satan, as it was taught that if you are not with God one hundred percent you must be with the devil. In 1993 conditions were different as not everyone believed in the same God, some people didn’t believe in a God at all. Although in the south people tended to share the same beliefs, God played a major part in everyone’s life. Another difference between these two events was that the West Memphis Three were given a chance to prove they were innocent and the three boys were able to receive support from their community members. Even though it took several years, people started to realize that they were caught up in the moment and they were wrong. Even some of the family members of the killed boys decided that The West Memphis Three were innocent. In The Crucible each person had a trial, however the judges already had their minds made
