When Gatsby, Nick, and Jordan met at Tom and Daisy’s house to go out for lunch, Nick and Gatsby begin to talk. Gatsby talks about Daisy and they say, “She’s got a indiscreet voice’ I remarked. It’s full of-I hesitated. ‘Her voice is full of money”(Fitzgerald 120). Their conservation is open to lots of interpretations. First, when Gatsby says “her(Daisy) voice is full of money” he is most likely saying that Daisy doesn’t love Tom but only is married to Tom because he has money. When this happens we see that money, old money, cannot buy love because Daisy doesn’t speak with love in her voice but with money because Tom has lots of it so Daisy also has money. Daisy only married Tom to secure her wealth and have money not love even if it's old money. Also, at Gatsby’s funeral, where no one but his father, Nick, his servants, and Owl-eyes came, Nick thinks about Gatsby and Daisy and has the thought of, “I tired to think about Gatsby then for a moment, but he was already too far away and I could only remember, without resentment, that Daisy hadn’t sent a message or a flower”(Fitzgerald 174). Nick’s thoughts are full of interpretation. First when Daisy doesn’t send Gatsby anything, despite being killed, it shows that she doesn’t love Gatsby and Gatsby’s hard work to make money didn’t work to make Daisy love him even more. Also, since a small amount of people attended Gatsby’s funeral it also shows that money, old or new, cannot buy love because no one loved Gatsby as proved when no one goes to funeral and only loved him for his party and money. Since Gatsby could not buy Daisy by working hard to get money and Daisy only has money in her voice when talking to Tom, it shows that money, old or new, cannot buy love but it can buy marriage of false love and people with false friendship. The West versus East egg demonstrates this because it is a symbol of old
