As they both lived in Baltimore they had very similar environmental factors. They lived in a poor area at the start of their childhood and had to walk past people selling drugs every day. As a young child, you almost believe that’s what you are going to end up doing. Both boys also grew up in families with not a lot of money. The mothers had to make ends meet by working many jobs. This left the other Wes Moore home alone were as the narrator had his grandparents to take care of him. On a societal scale the other Wes Moore’s mother could no longer attend college because of the drop of her scholarship. This caused her not to get a degree and therefore not a good paying job and care for her family. Lastly, the global effects include what was going on in the world. During the childhood of both Wes Moore’s, Ronald’s Recession took place. There was a high percentage of unemployment and this affected how both the mothers got money. People got paid very little money to do jobs and this ultimately affected how much time was spent at home with the
