Wes Moore Compare And Contrast Essay

There are over seven billion people that are currently living on this planet, and out of those seven billion people about one billion are children that are living in poverty. Two of these one billion children happened to be named the same and live in the same neighborhood. Wes Moore was the name that belonged to both of these two children. Although they grew up in the same neighborhood for most of their childhood, they would grow up to live completely different lives. This is due to the differences that each encountered while growing up including their families, experiences and choices that each of the boys made. One difference between the two Wes Moores is how both Wes Moores lost their father at a young age. One Wes lost his father due to the doctors not giving him the correct treatment that he needed. Role models play a big part in everyone's lives, it is who we look up to and want to be like when we grow up. They also give support which one Wes Moore lacked. One Wes Moore had a brother Tony, who is seen as the closest role model that he has in his life. Tony is not a very good role model seeing as he is in a gang and is associated with drugs. But it is seen that Tony does not want for Wes to follow in his footsteps, he wants for Wes to have a successful life, “Like a soldier after years of combat, Tony hated the war and wanted Wes to do whatever he could to avoid it. He was willing to risk seeming like a hypocrite” (Moore 28). This shows how Tony does not want Wes to be associated with drugs and follow his footsteps.
