Moore’s mother knew that the public school system created a bad environment, so in an attempt to put Moore in a better environment she enrolled him in a private school where expectations are much higher. Riverdale is described as “its own little island of affluence… predominately white”. This made it so Moore had two sets of friends, his affluent white friends, and his inner city black friends. This taught Moore two different ways of socializing, and this opened his mind to learning how other cultures work. However these two groups of friends do not mix, the first time this is showcased is when Moore decides to have a baseball game and when fights start to break out Moore finds himself reflecting on the combination of two cultures “I was becoming too ‘rich’ for the kids from the neighborhood and too ‘poor’ for the kids at school. I had forgotten how to act naturally, thinking way too much in each situation and getting tangled in the contradictions between my two worlds”. Moore was contemplating the clash of the two realities he was in; knowing that he could never had them collide
