Wes Moore Analysis

Both Wes Moores grew up with life not necessary in their favor. Both men were faced with serious choices of right and wrong and one chose the path in his favor, while the other chose destruction. The author Wes moore decided to get an education to benefit his future, rather than dropping out of school. On the other hand, the other Wes Moore decided to drop out of school and continued to stay involved with drugs and crime. The opportunity to get an education is the driving factor in the difference between these two mens’ fate. Education is a serious decision that could effect your whole life. I was born and raised in Oxford, Mississippi. Naturally, most kids who grow up in a college town end up going to the college in their town. For me, this college was the University of Mississippi. My whole life I planned on going to Ole Miss and following in my family’s footsteps. When It got closer to the time to decide on my college, I was not sure if Ole Miss was the right fit for me. I have always wanted to be a special education teacher and I just assumed Ole Miss would have those classes for me. Unfortunately, they did not. I was faced with the decision to decide between my dream school that does not have my major, and a school that I had never even thought about going to, but they had my major. I wanted to go to ole miss so bad I considered changing what I know I wanted to do in life just so I could stay in Oxford. My mom was in full support of me going to Ole Miss, but she wanted me to explore my options. We took a tour of Mississippi State University and I realized it was defiantly not the place for me. I had never even been to Starkville so I couldn't imagine going to the rival school. I started talking to my consular about what I should do and she told me I needed to go to MSU because what I wanted to do my whole life should be a priority. I decided to bite the bullet and head to Starkville. The first month I was here, I was miserable. I went to Oxford every weekend and I would cry because I desperately wanted to be an Ole Miss student. If I would have chosen to go to the school that didn't support me in what I wanted to do in life, instead of MSU, I might have a very different outlook on my future at the moment. I am determined to do well in school and get a job as a special education teacher. Similarly the author Wes Moore decided to become serious about his studies and grow up to become a mature successful adult. If I had chosen Ole Miss, I might barley be getting by in school and having the goal to just become a housewife who depends on someone else for income. This is not as extreme, but it is similar to the other Wes Moore choosing to continue his unhealthy life style and having to let other people, as in police officers, determine the rest of his life. My take away from this is education is important and everyone should do everything in their favor to make sure they are successful in
