During the War for Independence the colonists had to decide whether to be a Loyalist or a Patriot. To me choosing to be a Loyalist was the best thing they could have done for the war. Many of the Sons of Liberty and the Patriots didn’t know how to respect England. The American Colonists did some very disrespectful things to us Loyalists and they didn’t respect our views! Although numerous Americans think that England gave us taxation without representation, we should have just gone along with the taxes since we deserved them and refrained from war against England.

Before the war in what the Patriots call the Boston Massacre the British were blamed for shooting the “innocent” colonists. These Redcoats were frightened by the colonists throwing bricks at them and finally they didn’t know what to do, so they reached their “breaking point”. When the our English Service Men reached their “breaking point” they shot the American Colonists, which any one would do if they were in their shoes. This massacre was caused by the colonists becauses they should have been smarter than to throw bricks at people with guns. The Patriots are very hypocritical too like, Thomas Jefferson, who says all men should have life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness when he has slaves that have none of these “God given rights”. In North Carolina Colony they required all men to fight in the war minus a few religious exceptions! This is just wrong because the people should have been able to decide on if they want to be a Loyalist or a Patriot.
