Wellness travel is a travel trend that promotes both physical and mental wellbeing. Its purpose is to make people feel better both in mind and body, to enjoy new destinations without negative consequences and detox from the digital world: no overindulgence but finding balance and feeling re-energized.
Medical travel, travel to receive medical treatments that are inaccessible or unaffordable in people’s home countries, is not a part of wellness travel. Medical travel targets people that have health problems and need treatment, while wellness travel targets healthy people that are willing to change the way they travel.

More people are starting to realize that having a healthy lifestyle really can make a difference and they are paying attention to their health, not only during day to day live but even during travel. They are now taking trips specialized in improving health and wellbeing, because a better health in mind and body can create a better quality of life.
Wellness tourism
Wellness tourism is a new segment in the tourism industry but has existed since ancient times: hot springs and special bath in Roman times, visiting the Dead Sea for therapeutic relief in ancient times, and the Japanese traveling to springs for healing. The ancient Greeks even believed that the mind and body should be in perfect harmony and that a healthy mind in a healthy body is the way to live.
The wellness tourism industry has grown exponentially and has made it into a $563 billion ( €462 billion) global market in 2015, and is projected to grow even more: 43% by 2020.
