Over the course of the semester I’ve learned a lot of information over wellness. I’ve learned about chronic diseases, cardiorespiratory health/endurance, how to cope with stress, etc. I also started a behavior change project. This allowed me to change one of my most destructive habits, an unhealthy diet. I had no idea that there were so many aspects to wellness. After learning about all seven dimensions of wellness (Social, Intellectual, Spiritual, Occupational, Physical, Environmental, and Emotional) I wanted to increase my wellness in all of these dimensions, in doing so I have had to make a complete lifestyle change.

However, I participated in Bowling with the Bods and volunteer in other events on/off campus. Bowling with Bods is an annual bowling event where nearly 100 student athletes and 150 Special Olympians came together for a night of bowling. This event allowed Special Olympians to interact with Washburn student-athletes while bowling, enjoying pizza, earning raffle prizes, and autographs from the student-athletes. My job consisted of being a leader of about 5-6 3rd graders and supervising the kids, doing whatever I could to help them out and let them have fun. I thought this volunteer work showed a positive impact on the organization and to the society as a whole.

I made sure to push myself to new limits by creative and stimulating mental activities like puzzles and downloaded the app luminosity. People in different areas of Alaska all have different environments and depending on their environments, there might not be many activities that are possible. For example, in Barrow, the weather in the winter is very cold and there are tends to be a lot of snow and that would hinder any walking and bicycling. Small villages do not have community gyms because of how small the town is, so the only accessible gym might be at the school. Through the Healthy Alaskan 2020, the goal is more focused on Alaskans and the people who are in charge would know more about Alaska to decide what needs to be done to encourage people to do physical activity. My beliefs surrounding parents who are engaged in the child welfare system have been shaped and changed by my socialisation process and will significantly impact the way I interact with this group in the future. To fully understand what that impact may be I will identify and reflect on my beliefs by exploring my upbringing, consider commentary provided by those close to me and reflect upon these beliefs. I will also identify challenges I may come across in the future and recognise further skills or knowledge that would be beneficial to acquire. As a part of my socialisation process the values and beliefs held by family members and people in my community have strongly influenced me and my personal beliefs.
