Towards the end of my junior year in high school a special program was announced to the students. “Doc Prep” was a weeklong trip to Baylor College of Medicine that gave ten students the opportunity to witness heart surgeries, practice suturing, handle human brains, and meet many interesting people. Who wouldn’t want to be part of this enriching experience?…

Views From Moore Gym It was around 7:30 Friday night, when myself and four of my friends escaped the rafts of hurricane Joaquin, through the back emergency doors of the historic Moore Gymnasium. All of five of us despite the inclimate weather, were dressed for the cool fall temperatures for the first time this year. As we entered the gym, the sound of Aggie fans cheering for the Lady Aggie Volleyball team, filled my ears. This was my first time being in Moore Gym, which meant observation was natural.…

This building never contained one life changing event for me, but it has been a pivotal place in my life. A place I’ve referred to as home many times, the YMCA has shaped who I am as a man. This pivotal spot is where I suffered my first traumatic injury, changing how I do things for the rest of my life; but also was the place I went to when coping with family incidents. This institution, in particular the basketball gym, helped me find myself, changing my life forever.…

Statistics show that student-athletes are sought after by employers, and it makes sense. The Lesson in Quitting For the past 7 years of my life, swimming has played a huge role. Growing up, I had always enjoyed being in the water, and was one of the odd kids that genuinely enjoyed swimming lessons, no bribes required (thinking about it, I wish I had some of those kids in the lessons I teach now). Overtime, it began to feel less like a passion and more like an obligation; something I had committed to that was too late to stop. I was afraid to quit, afraid to disappoint, and trying to be dedicated to a sport I had lost interest in made me start to hate it. This year, I finally decided to drop the sport, and am now embracing the huge change it has had in my life.…
