I am very excited about the opportunities available through the Wellesley Quantitative Analysis Institute! This summer, I took the QAI summer course and loved learning how to use data analysis and computer skills to solve problems and answer questions. As someone who wants to have a career in economics, a field that looks at data and uses quantitative tools to address social problems, I enjoyed learning about applications of statistics in various areas of study, from psychology to history.

I am especially interested in strengthening my applied knowledge of statistics, data analysis, and computer programming. While I can learn about these topics in class, I found this summer that the fastest and most effective way to sharpen my skills is to apply them to real world problems. In the span of a single summer, I became comfortable with the basics of R, Matlab, and Python. I learned to use R and Matlab for data analysis/handling through the QAI course and my research with Professor Rothschild. After I left campus, I spent some time learning Python at an introductory level, and am now in CS 111 to solidify those skills. On top of learning about practical data handling using computers, the QAI summer course and

I really am looking for any opportunity that I can find to learn more, and I believe that I have the potential and experience to be a productive worker in any of the open positions. In particular, I have extensive mathematics tutoring experience from high school, so I would especially be an effective statistics tutor. If all of the open positions are filled, I am still interested in future applied statistics projects or an internship at the Human Variations Lab. For the potential internship openings: as stated above, I have experience with R and applied experience in Matlab, and am currently strengthening my Python skills. I also will know a small amount of HTML/CSS by the end of the

Our Lady of the Lake College is a Catholic institution that was created in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, who firmly believed that all of creation spoke volumes of God’s love for us. St. Francis was raised in a fairly wealthy family, and it was not until he was captured at battle for two years, that he decided to embark on the glorious journey of knowing Jesus Christ. He began preaching to word of God, and embraced others that were not of his kind. Students who attend Our Lady of the Lake College should be of the same example to others throughout their academic careers. As Franciscans, We live by five core values that are service, reverence and love for all of life, joyfulness of spirit, humility, and justice.…

For my senior project, I decided to challenge myself by creating a computer program with the coding language Python. The main challenge presented in this project was that I had no previous coding experience and would have to essentially learn Python from scratch. After a period of research and with the help and guidance of several real-life engineers and Mr. Logsdon (the ECP advisor). I made my ultimate goal to create a digital home assistant using a Raspberry Pi. Following the steps of the engineering process, my problem was again that I still only had a very basic knowledge of computer programming.…

When I first began this class I thought that this would be just another introductory class that is required to orient you to the expectations of the particular college. Now, after completing this class, I know that this is not the case. Personal Dimensions of Learning has been a great help, not only to my school work, but also in my daily life. Before taking this class, I thought that learning, and completing daily tasks, were mostly memorizing the order of the way things are supposed to be done and just completing the task. I never liked this strategy, but it always seemed to be the most convenient way to get things done at school, home, and work.…
