Well Child Tamariki Ora is a programme funded by the Ministry of Health which provides maternal and child health services to support and facilitate health and wellbeing in family and whanau 's from birth to four years of age. Primary health care (PHC) is drawn upon the purpose to provide accessible health care and reduce negative health outcomes. Working in primary health care as a nurse requires autonomy to undertake clinical assessments, health interventions and health education particularly during home visits for Well Child follow up appointments. Plunket is an organization that provides antenatal and postnatal care to mothers and fathers to improve their own wellbeing and their family and whanau 's (Royal New Zealand Plunket Society, n.d.b). The transition to motherhood can be distressing and for Wikitoria, she has stated she cannot cope with her pregnancy and child. In an article published by Leahy-Warren, McCarthy, and Corcoran (2012) it states that depressive symptoms are associated with lack of social support. Increasing social support may reduce Wikitoria consumption of alcohol as her form of self medication. According to Corrigan, Kwasky, and Groh (2015) social support can significantly improve mental and physical health outcomes. Plunket can support this transition and encourage Wikitoria to interact with other mothers in her community through their services such as parent groups. Parent groups can improve maternal wellbeing, as support from other mothers can validate another mother 's feelings.
