What is Welfare? In the United States, many Americans are unable to find work, or they have a hard time paying for even the necessities with a job. Due to this the government made the welfare assistance program. The welfare assistance program combines Food Stamps, Medicaid, HUD homes programs and Supplemental Security Income or SSI. The welfare program also includes the use of the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families, or TANF (US Welfare System (n.d). This part of the program is normally aimed toward single parents with dependent children. In order to take advantage of these programs an applicant must meet the standard resource and income limitations. A urine test is quick and painless, the test uses a person’s urine to test for any illegal drugs, or prescription medications. The urine tests for alcohol, amphetamines, benzodiazepines, marijuana, PCP, and opioids (). Other form of drug testing are hair testing, perspiration testing, saliva testing, and blood testing (). There are two types of urine drug test, they are the immunoassay gas chromatography/mass spectrometry, or GC/MS (Stang, D. (2015, October 5). The immunoassay is the most common urine drug test because it is more cost-effective, and the results are given quickly. However, one negative to this test is that is sometimes give false positives, or shows that a person is using drugs when there is no drug use (Stang, D. (2015, October 5). The GC/MS is more expensive and takes longer for results to be given, however, the GC/MS rarely ever gives a false positive. With both test, there is a chance that the test will give a false negative, which will show that someone is not using drugs even if the person actually is.
