Is working even important? Welfare is a government funded program that is designed to help the unemployed or poor by helping them pay for food, housing, medical costs, and more (“Welfare”). For all that, there are many problems with the entire welfare system. The government should regulate the amount of money for welfare programs because it hurts the nation’s economy. The reasons are because welfare has loads of fraud, creates dependency, hurts working class, hurts government funded programs, and it is hurting the nation’s debt.

The American working class is the reason why welfare exists. Twenty percent of adult immigrants are on welfare (Lake). There is close to 40 million immigrants in America (Lake). With this, immigration is a disgrace. In the past it is clear, America supports hard working immigrants that come to work and make revenue. If one fifth of adult immigrants are on welfare, than they are just here for the better living environment and not here to support our economy. Next, the government is too easy on the recipients. Forty-one million Americans use food stamps or SNAP, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (Lake). With SNAP and other food stamp ideas, these benefits are hurting the government's budget. When 40 million people are on food stamps, the middle class has to pay more so that the government stays out of debt. In addition, taxes will likely be raised so that the government can pay for the food stamps. When this occurs, the middle class will be paying even more taxes. Irreverently, even illegal immigrants hurt the working class. Around 30% of non citizens, earned welfare benefits (Lake).
Around one-third of all illegals are even on welfare. This is a shocking stat because of all of the illegal are even being payed by the government. One would not think that the illegals and the government are cooperating and still getting money. Even the children are affected by welfare. Close to 50% of children immigrants receive welfare benefits (Lake). Either immigration costs are too much or welfare funding is too lenient.
