Welfare: A Response To The Great Depression

A subject that is very sensitive and also important to me is the subject of welfare. Welfare is a program that is developed as a response to the great depression and the severity of the effects that it had on everyone. During that time this program really helped a lot of people and many would say that it even saved lives but that is not the case in today’s society. As the economy has recovered tremendously from that time period the program is now being abused, lacks accountability, and has become a permanent outlet. Like anything, there is always going to be good and bad with programs or any type of assistance but there has to be policies and procedures that are strictly enforced. The problem is that it is too often looked upon as a something that can be used for a solution to financial needs rather than viewed as a form of temporary assistance. The program is often abused and manipulated in the form false information or disguises with the hope of getting free assistance when it is not needed. It is not only on the recipients but also the policies makers as well because they have a duty to society to help that in need and make sure that the ones that are not, aren’t wasting resources that could be used for greater good. I am in no way saying that the program needs to be completely exhaled but rather have a stricter acceptance policy to make sure that the assistance goes to only the truly needy. To sum it up, it’s a great program with the correct intentions but there has to be a way to make sure that as a country we are not wasting resource and just giving assistance away but doing the right thing and only helping those in need. There are three strategies that I use when it comes to planning my essay the first strategy that I choose is determine the type of essay it is. For example, is it an essay that is going to cause me to evoke emotion and try to get my point of view across or is going to be an essay that is simply informational? Once that is determined, I then try to ensure that I find a way to write down all of my thoughts and ideas about the topic. Lastly, when it comes to planning my essay I like to formulate my thesis so I have a clear picture of exactly what the body of my essay is going to be about. When it comes to an argumentative essay the items that define the essay are the development of the argument, refuting the opponent argument, and the conclusion summarization the argument irrefutably.
