Welders and cutters may work outdoors, but often in confined areas, that are ventilated. These areas are generally designed to keep the spark and glare away from others. Colleges offer diploma certificates up to an Associate’s degree of welding. SCC Lincoln offers a program that is 2 to 4 years. Students that have recently graduated from SCC Lincoln report an average starting wage of $17.95 an hour. This program teaches basic engineering and technical skills. Welders need these skills to resolve production problems in manufacturing products.
