Welding Accomplishments

At Sabin-Schellenberg, there is a welding program that can help high school students get their welding certifications before college. It also helps students learn about different welding process and how to fabricate multiple things out of metal. I am one of those students working towards a certification,but it's not as easy as it seems. One of my hardest accomplishments this year was restoring a stool for a customer while practicing on my 3G certification all in one weekend When I first got the stool project I was surprised that my teacher gave it to me because it was a challenging project that required a lot of skills to complete. The first thing I did was take a picture of the stool and started to work on it. I was sanding for an hour when I noticed the sander was out of sandpaper and I had to start sanding by hand. This made the time required to sand twice as long. Another challenge that I noticed was that the stool needed to be tig welded.I have never tig welded before so I had to talk to the teacher about teaching me and practicing before tig welding the stool. It is very challenging for me because I'm am supposed to have at least 3 practice certification piece done per week. In one class I can get 1 piece done if I work really hard and some weeks we have only class two times a week which can be stressful to get 3 pieces done. Plus that does not count material Preparation or cutting. I have to cut my pieces in class which takes up to 1 hour if there is no line but there is always a line to cut pieces. Now that I have cut the pieces I need to grind the rust off the pieces and weld them on a backing plate. After all that I can finally start welding so I go into my booth. I start welding and after every weld, I have to be sure to clean it perfectly or my piece will fail
