After being bombarded with all the requests to play I reluctantly gave in and decided to play Welcome to the Jungle by Guns ‘n Roses. After my performance in the talent show, the feedback I got from students and other parents was so positive that I gained a new found confidence which spread to different aspects of my life. Once I left elementary school and began middle school I immediately joined the Jazz Band and Concert Band. In these groups I had to learn to work with others to make the music flow and sound pleasing to the ear. Again, I was able to use the skill I learned due to drumming in different situations and instances. Being a drummer in a Jazz Ensemble also means being the leader of time and rhythm for the entire band. This leadership caused me to start leading other things such as group activities in school as well as having a strong voice for my opinion. In addition to presenting a set of lifelong skills, drumming has also been and extremely important outlet for me since I started. While most people listen to music that fits their mood, I have been able to play music that custom fits my mood.
