He has no self-confidence and that is one of the main reasons why he gets bullied by everyone. During the first act we learn that Wyatt is the smarter of the two friends and that he loves and is skilled with computers. Gary is the more ambitious of the two and is always pushing Wyatt to do things that get him outside of his comfort zone. Also we learn that Wyatt’s main source of support comes from his only friend and that everyone at school, even if they don’t partake in the bulling, enjoy seeing them bullied. This information is crucial because later on in the movie it will explain why Wyatt is so hesitate of having a high school party in his house and why he doesn’t believe that he would ever have a chance with one of the girls at his school. Other important characters that are introduced in Act 1 are Lisa, who is the woman that Wyatt and Gary create using Wyatt’s computer, Ian and Max, who are the main bullies of the entire film, and Deb and Hilly, who are the two girls that Wyatt and Gary have crushes on. An often used cinematic technique is color dominance which helps draw the watchers attention to certain aspects of the scene. The red sky during Lisa’s creation shows that that moment is a major plot point and that the boys’ lives will change forever. Another cinematic technique is the montage of photos and the upbeat music during the creation process of Lisa. This symbolizes their commitment and desire for Lisa to become a reality. I think that this film, although a comedy and being slightly mature, has an important message that is relatable for anybody that is struggling with trying to find love and someone to care for that cares about them just as much. This film is an amazing example of three act story structure and can be easily analyzed to find cinematic techniques and for the goals and conflicts of the main
