It’s 6:30 a.m. I’ve struggled for the last half hour to stay awake. But it is early. Yet again, I’m dripping sweat from morning lifting. Why? Because coach says so. I’m sore. Really sore. I’m so sore, I do not know if I can keep going, but I know I have to because failing is not an option.
This is what high school football players need to hear:
First, you need to know lifting is hard. It seems as if its entire existence is to be hard. It pushes you to your breaking point, crushes your hopes, and keeps you on the floor. Your body feels weak- unable to move or get up. Barely audible coaches scream, but nothing can be heard over your own breath. However, the main purpose of lifting is not just to be hard.
