The obesity rate of America have grown over the last couple years. Many people have secondary lifestyle which lead to little to no exercise. The health issues have risen and we should pay more close attention to our bodies. Today, when we look at women and weight training, only 20% of American women get the recommended two strength sessions per week. Why is this? Why do women stay out of the weight room? Does weight training benefit women at all? A myth that kept women from the weight room is that they will look bulky, like the bodybuilders. They will also think that it doesn’t really benefit them and they will lose their femininity. So what does weight training do to women and is it really beneficial? With my personal experience, I can say that weight training have helped me gain strength and health overall. So, how can we get women into weight training?
I remember the first time I was in the weight room. It was my freshmen year in high school. The high school I went to, it was required to have 30 minutes in the weight room and 15 minutes of playing games. I wanted to educate myself and I event went out of my way to become a certified trainer. What I realized throughout the journey is that not many women know the benefits and know what weight training do for their bodies. If I was to put my thoughts into how we can get women into weight lifting is by educate them. Weight training is more male dominant. With all the myths and false information, women are not likely to start hitting the weight room. I feel seminars is the best way to educate everyone. Also, if schools was able to educate students on weight training before they hit the weight room, then gym class will be more
